Marketing Blog Summative: Digitial Communications Trends-the new promotions

Digital Communications

Digital Communications

Watching television you may see alot of digital communications during commercail breaks.
For example, watching Much Music they have a commerical that uses "Text your cell to" or "text this number to" to get a free giveaway or a chance to meet so and so.
This type of communications is very effective because so many people are vunerable and are very curious. They may also charge you the text time so its kind of like free direct advertisng in a way.

Online Advertising

Online advertising is can be sent from the company be e-mail, in that e-mail could be simple things such as coupons that can be printed out. Popular online communcation sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Yotube have alot of users and or get millions of millions of hits each day, so by advertising their good/service on these sites is a great way to attatch the link and spread word-of-mouth.

Mobile Communications

Mobile communications is a great way to send out events and notices about the companies good or service.  Promoting outdoor events, considering most people who use cellphones or any type of mobile device is not at home much. Through mobile communication, people can re-send these texts to their friends and family and so on and so forth.

Advergaming

Advergaming is a through way of communicating your company or brand through people.
Most marketers would advertise mostly games for smaller children and contests.
However, most teeens to adults are playing more in depth games online, this is an amazing way to
brand.

This video shows a game made by Coco Cola attacking the Pepsi brand through a simple attari game.

Social Media

Social Media is an extremely useful way of promoting ones' good or service, especially in today's society.
We use technology and social media or so many things, word-of-mouth has almost gone intinct, as for we now have the "re-tweet" and "share" button. Friends of friends or friend can see this and re blog.

Consumer-Generated Content

Consumer-generated content is a great way for the bsuiness to see just how much their customers/cunsomers enjoy their product and what they can improve on.
People facebook and tweet and retweet about a certain product and that makes others want to do the same think and like that product and or serive too.
You can see alot of consumer-generated content in videos through Youtube

This home-made video made by "Pocketnowvideo" explains his likes and dislikes about the Ipad.

This video made by "McInflosh" I guess shows his love for M&Ms because it just shows him eating them, then he leaves.

Marketing Blog Summative: 7 Main Types of Promotion

There are several different things you should do when doing promiton and alot of things that need to be considered. For example of promotion strategies:
Above-the line, which is a promition that is based on paid-for-advertising in mass media.
Push Strategy that is used above-the-line promo to PUSH products ont o consumers- that tells them about what they are doing.
Below-the-line, is a promotion used more focused, and targeted to reach customers
and the Pull-strategy that uses below-the-line promo- and encourages consumers to demand the product.
Then theres the difficult part, deciding which promo methods to use, who they are targeting and what their objective is for the promotion.

7 Methods of Promotion

The first method in promotion is personal selling. Personal selling involves contact between both the company representative and who make purchases the decision. Also, selling face-to-face, telephone, text, bbm etc. The second method is called direct marketing. Direct marketing is sending mail, e-mails etc to the customer. This is a cheaper method of advertising. Then, there is advertising, doing advertising can be very rewarding, this is where a company can bring out there funner side of things and be really creative.
They advertise through televison, i.e commercials, newspaper ads, through the internet, i.e Facebook, Twitter, then theres outdoor, which can be done on high billboards for everyone to see and buses alot of different people ride etc. Next, there is public relations. Public relations is a certian type of promotion that uses a third-party source. For exapmle, the news. After that, comes sonsorship which is very crucial for supporting events and organizations. They can provide extra money and other valuable assets that are of value to the event. You can do sponsorships through the television, i.e Plan.
Followed by sales promotion that involves a use of special short-term techniques like, flyers, coupons and samples, little things like that, that matter to so many people. Finally, digital communications. This is a promotion made for the web, smartphones, or alot of other types of devices.
You can use digital communications through online advertising, advergaming nd social media.

Marketing Blog Summative: Extension Strategies

Hershey's Extension Strategey has a wide range of other well-known brands under the Hershey name.

Reese's Pieces, is owned by Hershey and is licensed under the name, and with that; Reese's Pieces has several different types of chocolate snacks out there. Theres the normal chocolate and peanut butter flavored, then theres M&M like, candies, then they have the bigger cup chocolate snack. Reese's Pieces ice cream etc.

The Company also owns Twizzlers Licorice.

Marketing Blog Summative: Product Life Cycle

Product Life Cycle: Coca Cola
Coca Cola has been a corporation since 1944 in the United States and has branched off internationaly into being one of the most loved soft drinks among many people.
In my opinion, Coca Cola has lasted as long as they did because of their original taste and their marketing flare. How they use saving the polar bears as a charity marketing strategy and amazing use of commerical advertising.
They also have drinks for people of many health conditions such as; diabeties and people who enjoy drinking the product but want to stay healthy at the same time.

Doctor Pepper has been in business since 1885 in which they use that as part of their logo.
Many people enjoy this product. Doctor Pepper has a very unique taste, that differes from other cola flavors like; Pepsi and Coke. ( may people think they taste the same).
To me, Doctor Pepper has lasted a long time as a
brand because of their unique taste and its a obvious thing that people love the product, otherwise it would have not lasted as long.

Crush Bevergae Company, has been in business since 1911, which owns Doctor Pepper.
Many people get this product mixed up with the other soft drink brand known as; Fanta, because both brands use similar colours.
Me personally, think this brand has been around a long time for several reasons.
One, they have many, many different flavors to offer their customers such as; Orange crush , Cream Soda crush, Pineapple crush, Beer crush etc.  Also, they are the first company to event orange-flavored soda.

Marketing Blog Summative: Luxury Brands

Chanel is a big designer brand of high-fashion originated by Coco Chanel. Its  french, and specializes in haute couture and ready-to-wear clothes, luxury goods such as make-up,  fragrences and fashion accesories. There are alot of fake blackmarket versions of the brand. However, a real bag or a hat made or purchased from a Chanel store could cost a customer over $5,000 + Thats why, many customers of the Chanel are wealthy and/or Celebrities. Chanel only adverstises their luxury goods, mostly make-up and perfume through commercial and magazine ads. C.Lagerfeld, is one of Chanel's original designers. He also promotes the brand through his well-known celebrity status. If I had the chance...or the money to purchase a real Chanel item for my mom or grandmother I would.  I think this brand promotes class and elegance and expensiveness.  I think people buy this brand just for the sake of saying they spent however much money on a Chanel item...The Chanel empire has stores all over the world. 5th Av. New York, Paris France etc. Through out the 1920's to 2012, alot of famous people have been photographed wearing the Chanel brand.

Unit 2: Luxury Boom Marketing Blog Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton is a french designer brand that is really expensive and mostly sells to upper class people such as, celebrities, actors and actresses etc. Their logo is really strong and most people are able to recognize it anywhere and they know it's expensive.

Louis Vuitton sells anything from hand-bags, wallets, scarfs, clothing, sunglasses, drinking cups/mugs, luggage, shoes, jewlery, perfume, patterns to customize one's car. They also mentioned that they sells gift boxes just because people like that name. Someone also decided to customize their home with the logo in Mexico.  Louis Vuitton sells their products in a huge variety of ways. Through their website, in their own stores across Europe and NY ( on 5th avenue) and small outlets in Canada.  I believe their intended market is intended for people with alot of money income, women and men with the need to impress others.
<- This is a photo of Jessica Simpsons carrying Louis Vuitton luggage bags. Probably has the money too.

This product appeals to me because it's very expensive looking and I think alot of women everywhere do as well. It gives off the impression that its classy and when people see you wearing it, they think you're classy adn have a grand income.

If  I had alot of money, I would be willing to splurge on this designer make! Becuse its awsome.

Coke Case Study: Coca-Cola - How they use market research

Questions

1. What part does market research play in the marketing concept? (hint: the marketing concept is to: identify, anticipate, satisfy and meet needs profitably”)

Market research plays into the marketing concept by finding out what people want, and what they want to see what benefits them.

2. How will market research help Coca-Cola to develope an appropriate marketing mix for one of its products, e.g. Powerade?

Market research will help Coca-Cola to develope an appropriate marketing mix for one of its products by finding out what people want of out the product. For example, if they are diabetic, health concious etc.

3.  Why is it important to identify different segments of the soft drinks market through market research?

It is important to identify different segments of the soft drinks market through market research by finding out what type of soft drinks people like and choose. Its also important to figure out what brands they're buying, considering people think that just because something says ''0 Calarie"  OR ''0 % Transfat'' on the lable, they are more likely to buy that product. Observe the small details!

4. Market research carried out by Coca-Cola revealed a growth in the number of smaller households. How did this market research information help to inform product design?

This market research information helped to inform product design by finding out what people is smaller house holds like out of a product.

5. Why does Coca-Cola sometimes use quantitative market research rather than qualititave research?

Coca-Cola sometimes use quantitative market research rather than qualititave research because they would rather find out the numbers and statistics. This is easier to estimate the larger population demands then a qualititve reasearch would.

6. Why does Coca-Cola sometimes use qualititive market research rather then quantitive research?

Coca-Cola sometimes uses qualititive market research rather then quantitive research because they are looking for reactions, responses and feelings towards their products.

7. What are the benefits of carrying  out a simulated test market before going for a full launch?

The benefits of carrying out a simulated test market before going for a full launch is that they do not want to waste time money and effort and it not make a revenue.
It show's the reality of what people would want in the real world.

8. Coca-Cola Vinilla was already established successful product in the U.S. Then why was it necessary to research the feelings of the market about Coca-Cola Vinilla before launching the product in the U.K?

It was necessary to research the feelings of the market about Coca-Cola Vinilla before launching the product in the U.K because being in this region and the U.K is totally different. People are such opposited between the U.K and the U.S.
Europe is more refined and conservitive and relaxed, while Americans are more open minded and willing to try just about anything.

SWOT Analysis; VitaminWater

         Intro;

Vitamin Water as become a popular beverage, thanks to the growing demand for healthy beverages. Vitamin Water is owned by Pepsi and is becoming one of their leading  brands.

Strengths;

One of Vitamin Water's greatest strengths are spreading the greatness of their company by word of mouth. They only recently made an acutal commercial within the last three years.
You will mostly find Vitamin Water ads in magazines, billboards but rarely on television.
Vitamin Water does a great job by markerting their product by word of mouth.
Celebrity 50Cent has been the spokes person for their great product.
I believe they chose him as their spokes person because he gives off the impression of a strong male who enjoys working out.
Alot of young men look up to this, and endup drinking this beverage thinking that they will endup looking like this because they are drinking this product.
The brand awareness is growing rapidly.

  Weaknesses;

One weakness Vitamin Water has is weak advertising strategies.
Despite of how popular their beverage is, I feel like they would be a bigger expanded company if they'd get the word out about their product.
Besides their biggest competitior Crystal Light, their business seems to be ahead of their game, seen as there is not many vitamin drinks out their that is not for serious health conditions.

 Opportunities;

I think Vitamin Water could improve their company by promotions such as events and contests for their customers. They could develope merchandiseing products and help support charities.
I feel like Vitamin Water who target a totally new target market to the younger cunsomers under the age of 10. They could make a product for kids that has neat little pictures and convinces their parents to purchase it!

Threats;

Vitamin water could make their plastic bottles enviromently friendly.
Many people are starting to recylcle many plastic bottles or own a filterd water device.
People do not want to pollute the earth more then
what it is, or more then what it needs to..
If they make their product enviromently friendly,
their customers would indefintly go more towards their product then the next leading brand.

Mellennials

The things that I think are accurate about my generation are that we are very 'technologic' people.
We grew up with the newer technology then all the other generations. We have it way easier then the last few. Learning and socializing have got way to easier to do.
We are crossing over into adulthood and are now understanding how to connect and interact with this new 'adulthood' conception.
I believe our generation will do a great job for Canada now that we are taking over. We understand the technology better then the Baby Boomers and Generation X. We are learning about the technology currently in schools seen as educationers are foceing the content onto us.
The future is going to be technology. Theres going to be more advanced cars, homes and computers. Computers are already starting to take over jobs, and car control. The only thing i'm worried about is the limited number of jobs within Canada, with current appedemics such as the Baby boomers living linger lives thatnks to advanced technology and medicinal practices. Immigrants taking over cheap and forced labor. And the over population world wide.
If this is to go on any further, more then half the population will be unemployed and where does that leave the welfare cheques?

Marketing Mix Profile: Apple

COMPANY NAME: Apple

PRODUCT
  • describe in detail what services/products/ideas they sell
Apple sells eletronics such as; ipods iphone (4) ipad (touch) ipad nano ipod shuffle ipod classic AppleTV MacBook  AirMacBook (Pro)  MacMini  iMac MacPro.

PRICE
  • describe the price range
  • (i.e. Expensive $5000 gold watch)
  • (i.e. Low Price- "Dollarama")
The ipad 2 cost $519
MacBookAir cost $999
iphone cost $375
MacBookPro costs $1249
AppleTV costs $119

So as you can see, Apple products are not very cheap, however it depends what products are in supply and demand. Mac Books are more in demand because they are a newer product from Apple. Where as regular ipods are cheaper because they are old and are no longer considered the ''in thing''. People are always looking for the next best thing.

PLACE
  • in general, where are they located?
  • Busy area, conveience, high traffic, etc.
They have a variety of locations. They sell their stuff in electronic companies such as Best Buy and HMV.
Since they are a Canadian company, their headqauters is located in Toronto. Where you place your businesses for marketing is extremely crucial. You wouldn't place a Apple store located in the heart of a rural area. People are too conservative and less interested in current high-selling products. Now, if it were a new farm shop, or a crop market, revenue would sore.

PROMOTION

  • what forms of advertising do they use?
  • wjay types of promotions and/or spomsorships do they use?
Commercials, billboards, Twitter, Facebook, iTunes, Youtube.

Apple recently has a new commercial on TV where it shows that it doesn't matter what person you are, where you live, you can still enjoy Apple products.

COMSUMER
  • describe who their typical customer is. (i.e. - think of their age, gender, income level, where they come from, interests, education, type of employment...)
Teenagers, people with money. Music inspired people interested in the current fad of music. Urbam up-veat people etc. Basically, anyone with money, not directed to a specific age or gender, but to consumers who are seeking and looking for the next big thing.

COMPETITION
  • who is their direct competition?
  • Who is their indirect competition?
  • How do they differ from their competition?
Apple's biggest competition would be Blackberry & Android. Blackberry I find is more expensive then the other brands. However, I find people only spend money on a device which can do the exact same thing as Android and Apple is for the name.
Blackberry recently has recently placed 3rd on the top selling cellphone devices, because of bbm problems. Apple is in high demand, but their products are always changing.
Android sticks to one certain type of device and is completely cheaper.....for now!
